This podcast presents an approach to the diagnosis and management of meningitis in children. Listeners will learn the etiology and epidemiology of meningitis in different age groups, explore the clinical presentation, pertinent investigations and understand the management of bacterial and viral meningitis according to the most recent guidelines. This podcast was developed by Linda Ding, a medical student at the University of Alberta, in conjunction with Dr. Melanie Lewis, a general pediatrician and associate professor at the University of Alberta and Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. This podcasts is an overview and approach to acetaminophen overdose in pediatric populations. In this podcast, listeners will learn about typical causes of overdose in pediatrics, initial work-up in the case of a suspected overdose as well as the presentation and management of acetaminophen overdose. This video provides learners with an approach to the pediatric chest x-ray. By the end of this episode, you should be able to describe the expected radiographic findings of common pediatric conditions including cardiomegaly, pneumothorax, pleural effusion, pneumonia, asthma, cystic fibrosis, and non-accidental injuries. This episode was developed by Colin Siu in collaboration with Dr. Melissa Chan. Colin is a third year medical student at the University of Alberta and Dr. Chan is a pediatric emergency physician and Clinical Lecturer at the University of Alberta and Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada PedsCases podcasts and videos are designed to give medical students an overview of key topics in pediatrics.
